Jane Thomas Freed
A native New Yorker, Janie Thomas Freed began studying dance as a child and, at 16, joined the Latin Quarter, performing at its Times Square supper club and Palm Island location in Miami. She also danced for producer and choreographer Donn Arden at the Desert Inn in Las Vegas, where Louis Prima and Keely Smith were the opening act, before leaving the stage in 1961 to start a family with her husband, Bob Freed, a Latin Quarter maître d’.
As co-founder of the Latin Quarter Showgirls, Inc., Janie later reunited with former colleagues to stage charitable performances for more than 16 years. In 2006, she was first runner-up in Ms. Senior America, New Jersey, and continued performing with the Broadway Ziegfeld Entertainers. Janie and her late husband Bob raised three sons, with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren following.
