John called the same New York City apartment home for more than 50 years, entertaining a wide circle of friends that included comedian Rip Taylor (pictured), singer Johnnie Ray, and columnist and socialite Dorothy Kilgallen. Over the decades, he witnessed extraordinary changes in the city and his neighborhood, while remaining rooted in the familiar—greeting longtime neighbors, frequenting local spots, and maintaining the friendships and routines that made New York home.
